(Phnom Penh) – Investors in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. have formally appealed to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, seeking intervention in a case involving Yamada Taihei, the company’s Chairman of the Board, who is accused of serious breaches of trust and financial misconduct.

The submitted letters allege that Yamada Taihei exploited his position to enrich himself, including inflating the purchase prices of multiple real estate properties in Cambodia. Early assessments indicate that around USD 4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and that of his associates.

Investors also claim that Yamada Taihei made major business decisions without the approval of other shareholders, orchestrating fictitious loans and transactions totaling more than USD 7 million. He reportedly misused the identities of well-known Japanese companies to deceive shareholders, committed document forgery, and redirected large sums through numerous shell companies, including transfers to accounts under his wife’s name outside Cambodia.

Further investigations suggest that he established multiple offshore companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia, appointing nominal representatives while retaining full control over financial operations.

In Cambodia, Yamada Taihei and his collaborators face charges in at least two criminal cases, with court orders freezing several assets and bank accounts. Authorities in Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States are also reported to be investigating him for alleged embezzlement, money laundering, and breach of trust.

The letters to the Ministry of Justice urge a thorough, impartial investigation, strict enforcement of the law, and measures to protect witnesses. Investors also expressed concern that interference by influential individuals could obstruct justice, allowing the accused to evade accountability or tamper with evidence.
